Work on three medi-cities in Kashmir to start shortly: Officials | KNO

Srinagar, Jul 18 (KNO): Work on three medi-cities which were cleared by the authorities is expected to start soon as allotment orders for work have been cleared, an official said. The medi-cities are coming up in Kashmir at Bemina in Srinagar, Sempora in Pulwama and Lelhara Kakapora in Pulwama. Director Industries and Commerce Kashmir Mehmood Ahmed Shah confirmed to news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) that the allotment process is completed. “The concerned companies are depositing money in this regard following which work will be started on medi-cities,” he said He said that land has been already transferred to the department at all three places and all the formalities have been completed. The major health project will increase the bed capacity of hospitals by 5000 and will add an additional 1000 MBBS seats. The medi-cities will house medical colleges, hospitals, super specialty centres, nursing colleges, hospital management centres, dental colleges, ayurvedic colleges, medical education hubs, AYUSH centers, research centers, staff quarters and guest houses. The officials said that med cities will attract investment in healthcare infrastructure and improve healthcare delivery in J&K besides it will help in creating employment and education opportunities at all levels and can prove beneficial kick-starting medical tourism in J&K as well. In 2019, the then State Administrative Council (SAC) led by Governor Satya Pal Malik had approved the ‘Policy document’ to set up Medi-cities in Jammu and Kashmir—(KNO)
